Have you ever considered torturing someone’s neighbor to teach them a lesson? Animal rights activists have done more than consider it, they have been. As one tactic in an increasingly personal assault against researchers who conduct animal tests, protestors are shouting “your neighbor kills animals” into a bullhorn outside individual scientist’s homes. In the past, activists had primarily restrained themselves and limited their picketing to areas outside of research facilities or the corporate headquarters of companies that sponsor animal testing, but no more. Activists are targeting the scientists who conduct the experiments; a move which many think is over the line. The distinction drawn by some critics is between convincing and coercing. By intimidating the family and neighbors of researchers, activists have been labeled as terrorists by some angry writers and other public commentators.
