Japan has always played a host to strange video games, naturally, because Japan is the birth of the video game boom. But a lot of the really strange, oddball and somewhat pointless games are left for the land of the rising sun exclusively. From simulation games to dating games, they’re Japan-centric genres that don’t really move outside of the country. One of the newest additions to the world of Japanese gaming is virtual gardening games for the Playstation 3. Now, over here we might look at this as ridiculous, since buying a bunch of plants is clearly cheaper than the game, and we’ve got the land to spare. But in a city like Tokyo, which is a massive concrete jungle, you rarely have a lawn to work with. Let alone a massive garden area. So the closest you’re going to get to that dream garden is sitting in your living room.
