Don’t like your life? Why don’t you just make up a new one? According to The Smoking Gun, that is exactly what superstar rapper Akon did, and it seems to have worked out well for him. Akon claims that he spent 3 years in prison after being ratted out by low ranking members of his criminal empire. His "empire" was supposedly comprised of at least four chop-shops where the criminal mastermind now known as Akon brought stolen high end automobiles. He claims his customers were celebrities and drug dealers. While in prison, he claims that he had to fight every day, but eventually earned the respect of fellow inmates with his pugilistic skills, "I knew where to hit you to knock you out, so I didn't fear you." Of course this is all in addition to an extensive criminal history that began when the rapper was just a wee lad living on the rough streets of New Jersey. After several criminal background checks the only aspect of Akon that is not suspect is his imagination( although that aspect of his personality does not seem to surface in his lyrics) everything else seems to be a complete fabrication.
The Smoking gun reports,” While the performer's rap sheet does include a half-dozen arrests, Akon has only been convicted of one felony, for gun possession…that 1998 case ended with a guilty plea, the singer was sentenced to three years probation. Another 1998 bust… seized upon by Akon and transformed into the big case that purportedly sent him to prison (thanks to his snitching cohorts) for three fight-filled years. In reality, Akon was arrested for possession of a single stolen BMW and held in the DeKalb County jail for several months before prosecutors dropped all charges against him. So there was no conviction. There was no prison term between 1999 and 2002. And he was never "facing 75 years," as the singer claimed in one videotaped interview.” Akon is set to release his fourth album, We doubt that he will be writing any rhymes that chronicle his midwestern childhood or the 3 hard years that he spent on probation.
