Environmentalists can turn a critical eye away from corporations and national governments for a moment and look to their personal choices to make a difference. In April, the beta version of new cell phone software designed to measure the carbon output of an individual’s travel will be released in Europe. The GPS based program, an open source collaborative effort designed by British graduate students, is called Carbon Hero.

As environmental consciousness rises and a greater percentage of the population accepts some level of individual accountability for their impact, people want to see and measure their efforts. The ability to instantly track the results of your green, or not so green, choices will educate and encourage healthy decision making.
