Disgustingly enough, used condoms, yes used, are being made into hair bands and hair ties in Southern China. Beauty salons and local markets are selling these things in Dongguan and Guangzhou cities, southern Guangdong province.  The sad truth is that sexually transmitted diseases can still be passed, even though the condoms have been "recycled".  "People could be infected with AIDS, (genital) warts or other diseases if they hold the rubber bands or strings in their mouths while waving their hair into plaits or buns," the paper quoted a local dermatologist who gave only his surname, Dong, as saying.  Because these bands are so cheap and colorful, they've become big sellers. Unfortunately, healthy people are putting themselves at risk… I wonder if people know what they're made out of?  EEWWW.  It sounds like a Barely Legal product to me, it's still on the market even though the government has been quoted as illegal.
