Have you heard the term “athleisure”? How about “sweatworking”? You may not have known what to call it, but we bet you have seen it in action (so to speak). Athleisure is simply athletic wear meets everyday dress code. That means sweat pants—albeit nice, clean, even “dressy” sweat pants—are showing up at the office, even when it’s not casual Friday. It also means that it’s easy to hit the gym on the way home, without carrying a lot of extra baggage. We see the move toward personal comfort as a signal that the American consumer is interested in staying active while still conducting business. This means activewear will continue to grow as multifunctional, acceptable clothing 24/7, and it means there is an opportunity for business to meet its employees where they live—even if it’s the gym.
